Perth School Kicks off Playground Project this Weekend

Things are about to get exciting for kids here in Perth, as Build Day at St. John Elementary School finally kicks off on the 29th of May. From 8 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon, a dedicated team of Perth volunteers will be working together to build a new playground for St. John Catholic Elementary School.

The decision to build a new playground came from an idea aimed at adding life and fun to the Perth school and community. The idea became one step to closer to reality after the school received a large grant from Let Them Be Kids Canada, a foundation that helps towns and cities across the country build a spirit of camaraderie through volunteer work in creating kids’ projects such as playgrounds and parks.

According to St. John’s principal Terri Brady, the grant from Let Them Be Kids jumpstarted the effort, but it was ultimately the community, the parents, and the students that “finished” things so to speak, and helped the project to become a reality. Also lending a hand to the completion of the project were Perth’s many businesses.

Above all, the students are the ones most excited about Build Day. It’s understandable, since it’s their playground after all.
