Two one-act plays. Two production companies.
Oct 29 – Nov 1
Theatre Night in Merrickville’s Reception shows us what happens when family, love and a wedding reception collide. Divorced parents arrive at their daughter’s wedding — with new partners in tow. Add a few awkward encounters, romantic complications and a priest with a serious weakness for dessert, and you have a recipe for hilarious — and surprisingly touching — chaos.
Next up is Studio Theatre Productions’ Smoke and Mirrors. Local author, actor, playwright and retired firefighter John Kenny brings us a gripping “memory play,” directed by Jane Stott. Brent narrates his own story, appearing in every scene — always in a hospital gown — as the action shifts between a firehouse, hospital room and warehouse fire. But Brent is hiding a dark secret. With time running out, he must confront the past, make amends, and finally reveal the truth.
Both plays have been entered into the Eastern Ontario One Act Play Festival 2026 (Kanata).
