German-American artist Richard Lindner (1901-1978) fled his home country at the advent of the Second World War. After a few years as a graphic designer in Paris, in 1941 he moved to New York where he worked as an illustrator for prominent magazines such as Vogue and Harper\u2019s Bazaar.<\/p>\n

His experience of the city of New York, especially the underbelly of the urban center, informed his painting and his graphic work throughout his mature career. Erotic, bold, and colorful, and often humorous, Lindner\u2019s imagery is rooted in the nocturnal life of the cabarets, the busy streets, and the characters that inhabit them.<\/p>\n

This installation features the portfolio\u00a0Fun City<\/em>, created in 1971, in which depictions of the city\u2019s eccentric dwellers vibrate off the paper using creative design elements and pulsating color juxtapositions.<\/p>\n
