Acclaimed multi-award winning jazz \/ hip-hop trumpet player BROWNMAN ALI<\/a><\/strong> will once again lead an all-star quartet through his popular annual HALLOWEEN THRILLER concert, this year travelling to various venues across Southern Ontario.  The much lauded BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO<\/strong><\/a> + 1 will perform the entire Michael Jackson \u201cThriller\u201d recording, interpreted and re-worked in the Miles Davis-esque fashion this multiple National Jazz Award winning improviser has become known for.  In addition to the quartet performing Thriller top to bottom, other MJ classics will be featured through the night for this unique Halloween jazz party series.  Costumes and Thriller video dance moves encouraged.<\/p>\n

BROWNMAN ALI<\/b><\/a> is a multi-JUNO Award winner, GRAMMY long-lister, 2x National Jazz Award winner, 10x Global Music Award winner, 7x Toronto Music Award winner and \u2014 now splitting his time between Brooklyn, NY and Toronto, ON \u2014 has been heralded as \u201cCanada\u2019s preeminent jazz trumpet player\u201d by the New York Village Voice.  He has toured and recorded with the likes of Guru\u2019s Jazzmatazz, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Jay-z, Kanye West, Missy Elliot, Paul Simon and Quincy Jones.<\/p>\n

This show features as its \u201c+1\u201d acclaimed keyboardist NICK MACLEAN<\/b><\/a>, <\/b>a rising star in Toronto\u2019s jazz community, signee to Brownman\u2019s Browntasauras Records<\/b><\/a> label & winner of 10 Global Music Awards, standing alongside 2 of Toronto\u2019s most in demand musicians : SEAN DENNIS<\/b><\/a> on bass (called a \u201conce in a generation bassist\u201d by the bass dept. head at Humber College) , and ADAM MANSFIELD<\/b><\/a> on drums (26-year old drumset phenom), all under the direction of modern jazz trumpet iconoclast BROWNMAN ALI<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Delving so deeply into that record always leaves us speechless\u201d, states Ali. \u201cMichael birthed so many incredible tunes over the years, but his collaborations with Quincy Jones on Thriller has to be one of the most towering musical achievements in pop music ever. Using that brilliant material every year on Halloween, as jump-offs for what we do makes for a party that\u2019s both danceable, but still rooted in exploratory improvising and deep reaching solos. We approach it the way Miles might have.\u201d<\/p>\n

The BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO has won 2 National Jazz Awards, 3 Toronto Independent Music Awards for \u201cJazz Group of the Year\u201d, a SOCAN music award, a CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award, and an International Independent Music Award for \u201cJazz-Funk album of the year\u201d for the album \u201cGravitation\u201d, which hit number 4 on the iTunes USA jazz charts and was GRAMMY Award long-listed upon its release.<\/p>\n

\u201cAwards are nice, naturally, but to dig what Brownman is doing, you\u2019ve got to see him live. I had a chance to do just that over the summer when Brownman fronted his killer trio \u2026 I came away with a blown mind.
