Japanese Textile Star at MVTM The installation of the exhibition takes the architecture of the Norah Rosamond Hughes Gallery as its starting point. An array of amazing fabrics will \u201cdress\u201d the gallery\u2019s many columns. This wonderful historic building where workers produced award-winning textiles for generations is the perfect showplace for astonishing fabrics that range from \u201cSnowy Branches\u201d to \u201cScrapyard.\u201d You won\u2019t want to miss this rare opportunity to enjoy the work of this international textile star!<\/p>\n For information call the Museum at 613-256-3754. The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum is located at 3 Rosamond St. E. in Almonte.<\/p>\n Chemical lace workshop<\/strong> Don\u2019t miss this great opportunity to learn new techniques or improve your skills. The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 11 in the museum\u2019s Mill Workers\u2019 Learning Centre. The cost is $150 to pre-register, students will need to bring their own scraps of fabrics and a sewing machine. There is a maximum of 10 students, and to secure a spot you must register by June 27. \nThe Mississippi Valley Textile Museum (MVTM) is thrilled to be hosting the exhibition \u201cReiko Sudo + NUNO, Textiles from Japan,\u201d curated by Alan Elder of the Canadian Museum of History. The exhibition runs from 11 July to 22 November with an artist\u2019s talk and opening remarks at the Old Almonte Town Hall, hosted by the Town of Mississippi Mills on Thursday 10 July at 5 pm, followed by an opening reception at the Museum from 6 to 8 pm.<\/p>\n

\nIf you have worked with embroidering on silk before and want to build on skills at the intermediate or advanced level, join artist Reiko Sudo at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum on July 11 for the workshop \u201cChemical Lace.\u201d In this one-day workshop students will use a\u00a0water-soluble fabric for the base. NUNO has used the chemical lace technique in many of its textiles including \u2018Tsugihagi\u2019, where\u2014after attaching a patchwork of swatches to the base fabric, the base is dissolved in water leaving\u00a0\u00a0a survey of NUNO original fabrics in different colours, patterns and materials all in one cloth.<\/p>\n
